At Unger, we are focused on enhancing our operational effectiveness and increasing sustainability. As part of this commitment, we launched a project to increase the sorting rate of materials within our facility. This initiative aligns with our strategic plan for 2024–2028,and also aligns with the key environmental goals within the EU. Since the beginning of 2025, we have already increased our sorting efficiency from 75% to 84%, with the ambition of achieving a stable sorting efficiency of 95% by 2030.
Increasing Sorting Efficiency at Unger Fabrikker
At Unger Fabrikker, we are committed to enhancing our operational efficiency and sustainability. One of our key initiatives is to increase the sorting rate of discarded materials within our facility for further recyclability. This project began with a clear directive to establish the framework and budget necessary for successful implementation and is in-line with our strategic plan outlined above.
The project to increase sorting efficiency started with a comprehensive directive aimed at securing the necessary resources and budget for its execution. Following this, a detailed mapping of our current sorting processes was conducted. This mapping identified specific areas for improvement, and we are systematically addressing each point on this list. Key to this is following a structured approach whereby a new area is not started unless the previous ones are at least 75% completed and are functioning effectively.
Employee Engagement
A crucial aspect of this project is the involvement of all employees across all areas of our company. Every employee has been given the opportunity to contribute their insights and suggestions. The project group consistently asks: "What do you need to make the sorting job simple and efficient for you or your department?" This question drives our daily efforts and ensures that the solutions we implement are practical and effective.
Key Steps to Achieving Sorting Efficiency
Assessment: Conducting thorough assessments to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
Implementation: Developing and implementing solutions based on employee feedback and best practices.
Training: Providing training and resources to ensure all employees are equipped to perform their sorting tasks effectively.
Employee Involvement: Asking the users for feedback and how they think and feel about the systems and equipment that are available.
Monitoring: Continuously monitoring progress and adjusting processed when needed to maintain and improve sorting efficiency
Future Targets for Success
This on-going project is a collaborative process and is continuously seeking feedback from our entire workforce. We have already achieved an increase in the sorting efficiency from 75% to 84% in 2025 using a structured and employee driven approach.
This approach will continue until the following key areas are met to achieve our goals in this project:
- Identifying issues and systematically addressing them.
- Creating a more efficient and sustainable sorting process.
- Continuous involvement and engagement with everyone in the project.
- Reaching our target of 95% sorting efficiency by 2030.
